Things To Do During MCO/Lockdown To Keep Yourself Sane

With the Movement Control Order(MCO)/Full Lockdown and raising COVID cases, people are at war with themself coop up inside their houses in the war of overcoming fear, stress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Depression and anxiety can be many main reasons people are not able to control themself and facing mental health issues that causes them to suicide.
The mental stress and pressure that they have to deal with every single day is no laughing matter and is impacting everyone's life. During this pandemic, many people have lost their income, employees are cutting salaries, business owners are finding it hard to survive and most importantly everyone is facing health problems. In the end, the only thing that will matter will be the ability to handle pressure with patience and be optimistic about a new start.
However, with all negativity, there will be a way to bring positivity over. Every situation has its pro and cons. It’s up to us on how we look at it, and do something about it. We can’t solve a problem by doing nothing (hoping Superman or Iron Man to rescue you). We need to stand up and solve it. So, here are things to do during lockdown to keep yourself sane, cool, and calm.
1. Learn New Skills/Hobbies.
By learning new skills your time during the lockdown will be over soon (a good way to keep your mind off the current situation). Not only that, you could also significantly benefit your life and maybe create a new stream of income to combat the salary cut or income problem. Having a 2nd income is also a way to combat inflation and achieve Financial Independence as well.
Time is precious, please use it wisely. The most important skill is the ability to acquire a skill. There are many people who use their time to learn new skills and turn it into a business. It will be a hobby that pays and you will be passionate about it.
2. Reconnect with your family members or long-lost friends.
It's not about quantity but quality. With more time spent at home, you can strengthen your bond with your family (that you are not seeing often). Spending time with your kids can help you teach values to them. Help your kids in learning new things.
Spending time with your family will help everyone to understand each other. We should have at least one of our meals together as a family. Share our thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Working out and cooking meals together are also good ways to spend time with your family. If you have a garden outside your home, it would be fun to do gardening with your family. These will be the memories you will cherish for a long time.
3. Meditate and Exercise
Meditation and Exercising help to reduce the stress level that you have. With meditation, you are training your mind to focus and redirect thought. This keeps the mind in a clear manner. With meditation, you can increase your awareness and surroundings. This allows you to be more alert and clear.
You can do meditation multiple times in a day. You can sit on the floor or on a chair to meditate. You just have to be comfortable when you're meditating. Make sure that the environment around you is quiet and not busy.
4. Do What You Love
Spare some time away from work (After working hours) and do something you love. If you find singing help bring you away from reality - SING. If, baking helps to calm your nerve and makes you happy - go bake. You can refer to my blog about "How To Make Sourdough" here.
Doing something you love, make keeps you happy and distracts you from all the possible negativity that may appear on social media or the news. You do not want to be influenced by the negativity that is portraying on the web.
5. Reduce your social media time spend.
We want to keep ourselves updated with the latest news about everything that is happening around the globe. We constantly keep scrolling through news feeds or checking social media posts. It is important that we fix a particular time and have a fixed duration to get the information that we are seeking. Reading a lot of negative news might demotivate you and instill in you a lack of confidence. Try to seek information and news only at specific times of the day – once or twice, not more. Avoid reading gossips or toxic content that bring zero benefits to you.
Though keeping yourself updated is a good thing, spending a lot of time doing this is not worth it. We should try to restrict our social media time. Despite all the good it does, it has its own side effects.
